I learned a while back about the importance of being in the moment...enjoying the here and now and releasing the stress and tension associated with the past and/or the future is a very healthy mindset to maintain. Fear for the unknown is an other one, that does not necessarily has to do with your past.
Also, the fact that you can alleviate your stress by writing your issues down (I do the same, by the way) points at the fact that there is more to it than past experiences.
When I am in a stressful situation I always try to answer the same question. What can I do to change my feelings, with the emphasis on I. After all, I know I can change me, I don't know if I can change others. That remains to be seen. Frequently I am able to make the problem much smaller, or even make it go away, through this approach.
Karin.social bookmarkinghttp://www.automarker.net/blognoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-136140967639640214.post-10033766997559355662010-05-13T21:00:46.309-04:002010-05-13T21:00:46.309-04:00Hello Edward - good stuff. When I feel any inkling of distress and I identify it quickly, I can then ask myself "what about this situation caused me stress?" The next step, that I have just recently learned, is to then ask myself, "what policies do I have that are contributing to this stress?" In my business I had a certain way of responding to people that owe me money that didn't fit in with who I am but fit in to how business is normally done. When I finally changed the policy I gained a ton of stress free time. I find if I write things down it gets them out of my system and I feel much better for it, I come back to the list and then deal with them one by one. I also have a positivity journal, which, at the end of each day I write down all the positive things that happened during the day. It's great to look back on it and see that some really awesome things happen in my life even if it's just a lazy day at home :-)

Cheers,

LynnLynnGlasernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-136140967639640214.post-19212220267951112552010-05-10T04:45:34.894-04:002010-05-10T04:45:34.894-04:00@karatedar - I completely agree! Just last night I was reading a few pages, and he was talking about how in all reality "The Now" is ALL we have and it is the "mind" that causes stress aka tension, etc. We have to be free of thought (i.e. meditation) in order to truly experience "The Power of Now" ... going back to the concept that that is ALL we have. That is derived from the idea that time is constantly changing. In that time, 2 years ago WAS "The Now" ... same for 2 years into the future, that will be "The Now" ... We have to almost rid ourselves of the mind stirring up anxieties about the past and future to feel real peace and freedom from bondage of a self fulfilling prophecy; our minds spiraling out of control. Of course, true peace comes via Jesus Christ and the Cross! Thanks for sharing, Ed. I too am grateful for a lot of things and "you're one" - Keep it up bro! A good source for producing that is "Living In The Now" by Eckhart Tolle. This moment is all that we really have. Your strategies to write down the issues that cause you stress sounds quite effective and we all know that keeping a journal is fundamental to our self-development.
You must have relieved a little stress by making use of your drive time to record a video. No matter what we may or may not think is coming, spending too much time fretting over the future is simply engaging in a fantasy world. I think if we fail to consider possibilities, then we are missing something important…but if we dwell on things we don't know about within a mindset of fear, we typically experience stresses that are completely unnecessary. I like the concept of writing things down, releasing them, and then coming back later when perhaps the fear has subsided a bit to reasonably take a look at what possibilities may be coming around the corner. At the end of the day, however, we don't really have a clue as to what is coming tomorrow…let alone what is coming in a week, a month or a year.brucebackmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-136140967639640214.post-41209589915482153832010-05-07T03:39:30.037-04:002010-05-07T03:39:30.037-04:00Ed - good thoughts, thanks.
